How to Dress Up Gracefully as Per Your Age

As a teenager, I have often looked at elderly women and wondered

Why does she not dress as per her age?

Why is she wearing that skirt?

Is she not aware of her age?

Well, cut to the present day scenario, I am 52 years old and the obvious has happened. I have aged but I don’t feel old and I never felt the desire to change the way I dress. So instead of being aware of the scenario I was quite happy with the way I was. But a few days back I was asked to attend my granddaughter’s annual day function. And I had nothing to wear. (Well, most of us feel like this, but it is TRUE!) I asked my sister if she could lend me her dress. I selected one of her trendy dress and tried to wear it. But sadly I failed to fit in it. (By the way let me tell you she is 12 years younger to me). This incident was a kind of shock for me. And it finally dawned on me that I need to shop. Getting old is not bad. We all get old but what matters is that we need to dress as per our age. I am no one to tell you what you should wear and what you should not. If you are comfortable in your body and love to wear miniskirts then jolly well go ahead and do it.

But there are many women like me out there who love to look stylish but not at the cost of making a mockery of ourselves. Just because you are an elderly person, it does not mean that your sense of style has to be boring and complete “granny style”. So it is time to shop and I got down to making a list of what are the things that I should consider so that I look stylish and trendy but not over the top. Thankfully, the 80’s fashion is back and I had a wide range of options to choose from - leggings, ruffles, elegant coats, cigarette pants and pumps.

The Golden Rule of Dressing as Per Your Age:

Don’t fret. Be proud of your body and the changes it has undergone. It is an example of your confidence and self belief. Invest in few but expensive clothes as the tailoring cut and fitting will highlight the best parts of your body. And when we look good, we feel good as well. Invest in a good trouser, coat and a crisp white shirt. These should be your “go-to” clothes whenever you are in doubt. Stoles, leggings, scarves, maxi length dress should be your other choices.

Watch - Time It Right:

A stylish, big dialed watch is a must have. And if it is rose gold color, the better it is. This color will look grand yet very subtle and not over the top.

Shoe – Put Your Right Foot Forward:

Steer clear of stilettos until and unless you are sure that you will be able to carry it off. Invest in flats or kitten heels. They look cool and are high on comfort as well.

Purse – Carry Your Style:

We all know the importance of a good purse. Make sure that it is high on quality and will have enough space to store everything that you need. Invest in a high quality leather purse. Trust me, you won’t regret.

Accessories – The Add - ons:

Nothing works wonders like a pair of solitaire studs. You can wear them all day, in any occasion. And they are a girl’s best friend. Need we say more?

So go out and shop you Ladies! Dressing up has never harmed anybody!
